Journey to India

Here is a Kathakali dancer from Kerala, India. They are all male dancers. That is not a mask he is wearing, but makeup that takes hours to apply. The make up application is a ritual in and of itself. All the colors are made from natural products.

Dancing with gypsies near the Pakistan border in a small remote village of Kuri, India.

I bought a costume from Sunita. It was quite an experience going to the gypsy camp to beg her to let me buy her costume.

I did get the costume---see?   The second trip to India was a Buddhist meditative pilgrimage with my hubby. It was exactly one year after his near fatal car accident. A drunk driver smashed into Hideki and he was unconscious and in intensive care for a month, so we went to get our blessings in 2005.
This is where Buddha gave his first sermon.
Kerala, India, right after 9/11. It was scary to go so far, but it was worth it. The ladies standing next to me are Mohiniattam dancers.
